Rocky Horror Picture Show Media Release
Trent Hills Pride Festival
June 20 – 26, 2022
MEDIA RELEASE
Trent Hills Pride is excited to announce that it will kick off the week of Monday, June 20th to Sunday, June 26, 2022, as Trent Hills Pride Week!
Organizers are fine tuning a variety of events happening throughout the week, culminating in the Pride Caravan on Sunday, June 26, with a Pride picnic afterwards at the Campbellford Fairgrounds. More information about all of the events will be available very soon, at Trent Hills Pride website.
In the meantime, we are thrilled to announce the showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Aron Theatre in Campbellford, on Thursday, June 23, 2022. Aron Theatre is located at 54 Bridge Street East.
When the film was released in 1975, it was a box office flop. But…audiences loved it and by 1977 it had developed a devoted and enthusiastic fan base and was shown every Saturday night for years, in theatres all around the world! The BBC’s Culture department has said of the film:
Every Saturday night since 1977, cross-gendered disciples in corsets and ripped fishnets have congregated to chant and sing along to The Rocky Horror Picture Show as if attending some gloriously kinky midnight mass.
It’s the ultimate cult movie. The first. The biggest. The one cult movie to rule them all. For more than 40 years, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has defined what we mean by a ‘cult’ movie, though few can ever hope to match its phenomenal level of ritualised worship. A box office flop so ker-splatty it was pulled from the few screens showing it back in 1975, only to be lovingly resurrected by a devout fanbase. It has since grossed over $170 million worldwide and holds the record for the longest continually running movie release of all time.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2020. Covid restricted our initial Pride events in 2020 and 2021 to simple Trent Hills Pride “Car-avans”. A hoped for return to normal life means that in 2022, we can let loose our inner virgins (or not) and enjoy an evening of Rocky Horror!
We warn audiences that there is very important protocol as to how a Rocky Horror evening unfolds, apart from having a jolly good watch. So, we’ve borrowed some pointers from The Virgins Guide to Rocky Horror offered at the Official UK Rocky Horror Fan Club. Please only use the following, however, because we don’t want to mess up the beautiful Aron Theatre overly much.
Dress: Optional, whilst some people look good in a dress, others don't. You may find that you may like to wear something a little more outrageous, stockings, high heels. You may even become a diehard fan and start to make perfect copies of the costumes worn during the show. Or, just wear something casual but remember to follow the following four step guide to clothes that should never be worn to 'Rocky': suits, sandals and striped shirts!
Dancing: Although not compulsory, you may find that during the Time Warp you are the only person in the audience not on your feet. There is only one simple rule: 'do what it says'. For example the phrase 'it's just a jump to the left' should be danced by jumping to the left. If you want to get up and boogie to the other songs, feel free to do so, remember though the Time Warp is the only dance that has set moves shown.
Props: Toast, to hold high in salute during the dinner scene (please don’t throw it). Rubber gloves, to be snapped in time with frank 'n' furter during the creation scene. Cell flashlights, used during the song 'there's a light'. Party hats, used during the dinner/happy birthday scene. Newspaper, worn over the head during the rain scene.
Audience Participation: Sometimes, the audience will ‘talk back’ to the screen actors. Do this if you please, but, judiciously.
Etiquette: Oh, just have fun, fun, fun!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be held one night only, Thursday, June 23 and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $23 per person and can be ordered online here.
