About us...

Our Beginning: The Trent Hills Pride Story
In May 2021, during the first year of the pandemic, a local mother posted a heartfelt message in a community forum, asking for advice on how to celebrate Pride Month with her lesbian daughter—right here in Trent Hills. Moved by her message, fierce allies Lexy Cameron and Lee Matthews quickly took action, organizing our first-ever Pride event: a Pride Car-Avan, with a route specially designed to pass by the girl's home. What started as a small gesture of love and support turned into something much bigger—23 decorated vehicles showed up, filled with community members eager to stand in solidarity.
Inspired by the momentum, another ally, Bonnie Bowers Wilson, launched a petition asking the municipality to install a rainbow crosswalk. Despite facing significant opposition, the community rallied once again. Today, thanks to their perseverance, Trent Hills proudly has three vibrant rainbow crosswalks, one in each of our main villages.
In 2023, Trent Hills Pride officially became a not-for-profit organization to continue this important work—creating space, visibility, and support for 2SLGBTQ+ people in our rural region. Since then, we've grown into a dynamic DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) community organization, providing education, support, and training on 2SLGBTQ+ and broader equity issues to groups and organizations throughout the area.
Today, Trent Hills Pride is stronger than ever—grounded in love, powered by community, and committed to building a future where everyone feels seen, safe, and celebrated.

We recognize the traditional keepers of this land and, specifically our neighbours of the Alderville First Nation, with a formal territorial acknowledgment. Welcome to the Gunshot Treaty Lands of 1788. It is on these lands and on the shores of the big lake, the Mississauga Anishinabeg met with the Crown to Facilitate the opening of these lands for settlement. Let us be reminded of the responsibility we all have in making sure that we respect these lands and waters that give us life and sustain our livelihoods.
